My CD Research

As the song which my music video shall be based on is The Kinks, I typing into the search engine 'the kinks cd cover' and these are the first things that it came up with.

When looking at the album covers for The Kinks we can see that there is a distinctive difference in terms of style and media. This first one features my chosen song and this was produced in 1966. There may be a distinctive difference in term of the style and media that is used to create these covers but when you consider the time all of them were produced you don't see a difference since they come in no specific order to indicate any progression in their style. An example of this in any other bands cases would be The Beatles. You are able to see clear differences from when they started, taking the HELP album for example and the Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band.

When you look at the time in which these were produced you can see clearly that some bands had larger budgets compared to others. Again taking The Beatles as an example. The Kinks are very basic in the terms of their style and ideology and this reflects in the covers of their album. Another factor that you may look at when considering the time in which they were made, fashion and ideologies were a lot different as well as the fact that technology didn't allow much creative outlet in the terms of graphic design. This is what gives these album covers novelty today, and if we look at the ideology of today's society and the alternative identities that some people carry, it would bring them much joy to look upon something in its former glory and disdain away from how things look today almost wishing for a time that they didn't experience, a time which they have only experience through media. The fact that some people would want to experience the original album and would like to enjoy the authenticity.

Dependant on what value you may place upon a cultural artefact may have an impact on how you see and what opinion you have on your experience compared to theirs. The novelty of having a physical copy compared to the digital copies that you may have today no longer have that value as they aren't necessarily real.
